Professional photographer Lisa Robinson typically sticks to weddings and portraits. But she was excited to be behind the lens for her very first labor and delivery photo shoot -- her own.

Robinson and her husband, Alex Ward, already had a 9-year-old son. After years of trying and two miscarriages, the California couple gave up their plans of having a second child. That is, until they discovered they were unexpectedly expecting a rainbow baby.

During her pregnancy, the talented mama-to-be joked that she should shoot her own birth. But this quirky idea slowly evolved into reality as Robinson mapped out her birth plan.

“I was pretty flexible with the plan,” she told ABC News. “If it became impossible I was fine with not doing it but fortunately I had a really easy and amazing birth experience.”

Robinson's images of her daughter's arrival offer a rare perspective of the birthing experience: Mom's. And the results are simply stunning.

Wow! The quality of these images is amazing -- and that's not even taking into account this woman was

pushing a human out of her body as she was snapping away. I'm super impressed.

"When I was ready to push, I’d bring my hands and the camera up to my face," Robinson told The Huffington Post. "I didn’t know what I was getting at the time, and I didn’t know if anything was going to be in focus. But it helped me focus."

Robinson said she worried, at first, that taking photos during labor would make it feel like she wasn't there for her daughter's big arrival. However, this wasn't the case at all.

"I was totally there," Robinson also told The Huffington Post. "I was so present when she was coming out of me. When I look back at these photos, I can remember exactly how I felt. I can relive the moment my daughter was born."

How special is it that this mama's passion helped her cope through labor? As a bonus, she can now look back on these photos and experience the magic of her daughter's birth -- and her first birth photography session -- all over again.

I have a feeling this won't be her last time behind a camera in the labor and delivery room. Thank you for sharing this unique perspective with us!
